Project SKY Service Learning Program

Student Handbook | Apply | Partner Programs | Training Schedule

Project SKY (Students, Kids and Youth) is a service-learning program that offers professional training and field experience for UA students who want to work with children and youth. By participating in this program, you will:

  • Receive professional, practical training
  • Work with children and teens in the community
  • Learn from skilled youth professionals
  • Gain valuable work experience to put you steps ahead in the job market
  • Earn credits toward graduation

Project SKY combines the growing need for the education of youth development professionals and experiential education for college students who wish to build a career in the field. Students involved with the project will not only gain "hands-on" experience with children and teens, they will apply their coursework through structured activities such as discussion, guided reflection, individual and group demonstration projects, and special assignments that they will design to benefit the youth they serve. In addition, students will benefit greatly from the mentorship of experienced youth development professionals in the community.

After completing an agency orientation and training program, you will be placed in one of four youth programs at Child and Family Resources, Inc., our community partner agency. You must complete the entire training to participate in the field experience. You can earn University units to work for 8-10 hours a week during fall or spring semester. Internship units can be earned through your major department--talk to your advisor about how to arrange this.

Who should do Project SKY?
Any student who:

  • Is interested in a career with youth
  • Has a genuine desire to learn about and work with youth
  • Is confident, enthusiastic, and motivated
  • Wants to bring something positive to kids’ lives
